What length do I need

Quick Learner from Fort Wayne, Indiana
I need to replace a balance in a vinyl tilt window. The part I have is broke and
I cannot determine the correct length to order. The window is 42" tall.
The full extension of the balance needs to be about 40" or 41" to close the window.
At full open the balance needs to be about 25".

What are the measurements I need to determine the correct length of a Series 600 Spiral balance?

Hi there- thanks for posting!

The way to determine the length of your spiral balance you need to purchase would be to measure the length of the current balance that you have. I'm not sure what you mean by the full length should be 41". If you have an undamaged balance that you can measure that would be best. Simply measure from metal to metal and make sure not to include beyond the color tip in your measurement.

please refer to the attached photo in the original email.

based on your guideline, I should order a 20" balance.
what will the fully extended length be?

If the outer tube is 20" long, then that's what you want to go with. An S600-20 would work perfectly for your window. You don't really need to worry about the full extension except in very special circumstances, but it looks like you just have a regular ol' S600-20.
