Which Balance Model Do I Need

Home Owner from San Diego
Hi - Attached is a picture of my balance. What model do I need? I have both a 20 lb sash and a 27 lb sash. However, the windows are the same size and the balancers ends and size are identical. The body length is 32 in. and the width is 1/2 in.

Thanks,
Terry

Thanks for posting, Terry!. Before I can confirm what Series channel balance you have, I'll have to figure out what your bottom shoe is. Please look at the measurements for our 15-001 and 15-002 bottom shoes and note their depths. As you can see, they are 1-1/8" deep and 1" deep, respectively. Which measurement more closely resembles your own shoe?

Please also confirm the length of the metal channel. Please remember not to include the plastic attachments in this measurement.

15-001 1 1/8 and 32 inches. The problem I am trying to fix is that my windows are difficult to move up and down. I know that having different weighted windows also affects this.

Thanks,

Thanks for the information, Terry. Your windows may be hard to open because they don't have the appropriate strength balances installed.

Now, it looks like you have our S390-32. Does that look about right to you? For your 20 pound sash, I recommend the 3130 stamp option. This can carry a window sash weight range of 16 through 23 pounds.

For the 27 pound sash, I recommend the 3140 stamp option. This can carry 23 through 28 pounds.

Please keep in mind that the weight range information is based on 2 balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.

Let me know what you think.
