Why won't this lock fit my keeper?

A quick learner from Tennessee says:

I bought the Swisco 82-226 mortise lock, and it fits my door and works fine.

But the hook doesn't reach out and hold my strike like the old lock did.

Oh, and the hole-to-hole spacing is about 3-3/4 inches.  What do I need?

Thanks for writing in! This is something we find to be a common occurrence. You'll likely need to adjust the mortise. 

There's a little slotted screw just above the hook that you'll need to locate. When that screw is turned, the hook extends out or retracts back into the door. That should fix the problem you're experiencing.
