Based on what you describe, it sounds like your Winchester Series window is using our 5/8" diameter S600-22 spiral balance. The tube is 22" and the spiral is 23.5" long. Does that sound about right to you?

We also recommend a 75-006 charging tool to add tension to the spiral and help attach it to the pivot shoe. It'll just make installation a lot easier.

We also recommend replacing both balances at once, yes. You can always put aside the old undamaged balance for an emergency backup option.
