Window Balance Help

A quick learner from Tennessee says:
Hi. The window balances that I am needing to replace are 24 inches long and 1/2 inch in width. They have 23 C written on the side in one direction and then what looks like an incomplete 3 and .S.I. written in another direction. Thank you for any help!

The depth of the channel is 5/8". The top and bottom are nonwinged, and I think the bottom plastic is 1 1/8 inches in width. I think I need this piece here: https://www.swisco.com/24-inch/pd/Series-390-Channel-Balances/S390-24

If the depth of the bottom nylon shoe is 1-1/8", then this is indeed an S390-24. You'll need a stamp option of 2330. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi, I need to replace a total of 12 individual NuPrime complete channel balances (45 yrs old) that measure 24 1/2 inches long not including the plastic pieces at the ends and 1/2 inch wide. The balance has a numbered stamp of 2430 BSI as you see in the photos. The S390-24 looks to be the closet match. Not sure what to do about the length since it is a 1/2 inch off. Do I need to order 24 or 25 inches long? Thanks for your help!

Hello,

It looks like you have either our S351, with a 15-002 bottom attachment, or S390, with a 15-001 bottom attachment. Take a look at the image below to determine which balance you'll need. You'll also need a 2430 spring strength option for your replacement balances.

As for your question about the length, your 2430 stamp leads me to believe that this should be a 25" balance. It's possible that someone might have cut it down when they were repairing the window in the past, though I can't be sure why. I would recommend checking an identical window in the house to confirm the series and length. Also, make sure to only measure the metal channel, not including the end attachments. Thank you!

Thank you for your helpful information Casey. I measured several other of the metal channels without including the attachments and they all measure 24 1/2 ". Will a 24" channel work? Perhaps they were all custom cut when they were installed. The NuPrime instructions are dated 1974. The house was built in 1926. I confirmed I have the S390 with the 15-001 bottom attachment (1 1/16). Thanks again!
