Window Balance and shoe stuck in upward position

Question

Hello,

I have a window balancer and shoe stuck in the upward position under full tension. The other balancer and shoe are stuck approximately mid-channel. I do not know how to safely release tension while still attached to the window. Current balancer and shoe (28B of BSI) similar, if not same, as Series 775. I have tried to apply pressure on both shoes attempting to release Window was successfully removed.

It sounds like the shoes are stuck. What you need to do is put a screwdriver in the space where the pivot bar usually goes and turn the shoe. This will unlock it and allow you to slide it up so you can remove the balance--however you have to be very careful. Like you said, they're under a lot of tension, so you have to keep a firm grip on the screwdriver the other time. I recommend wearing safety glasses when you do this, just to be safe.
