Window Balancer weight question

Quick Learner from Hawaii

Thanks for your help. I have 2 sets of window balancers, my original BSI 25-3 and an attempt at replacements marked 25-3 GP5 CMC 7. My original BSI parts started screaching when lowering the window and, upon inspection, had a frayed cable so we had our contracter find us replacements.

Although the CMC parts matched the physical characteristics of the BSI's, they don't hold the window up all the way. The window is 17.5 pounds. The springs are very different in length and tension apparently.Anyway, your site shows what appear to be form-factor replacements with specified weight ranges. At 17.5 pounds, would you suggest the 15-19 range or the 19-25 range?

I ask because my two samples of balancers, my original that worked great, and the replacements that don't work so great, are both marked 25-3. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again, Alan

Hi there, Alan.

It appears you have two different balances in the same window. They should be identical. Can you confirm which one is original to your window? Neither of these parts can be replaced by any of our stock balances so this will ultimately need to be a custom order. I just need to know which is the one your window originally had so that I can get this moving for you.

Hi, Emily. The BSI balancers were the originals and they are a matched set.
Your S380 or S385 appear to be a close match but there may be better options.
The CMC units fit but don't hold the window up all the way.

Oh, I see now. Thanks for clarifying that for me. We can help supply your original extended travel balance but it will have to be a custom order due to the configuration. Just to confirm, your original balances with the 25-3 stamp worked well, right? If so, then we suspect the balances that are stamped CMC are the culprit for your window not operating normally since they're the wrong part.

With that said, the replacements we'd be sending you will have a 25-3 stamp for a sash weighing 14 to 18 pounds. Going with a higher stamp option doesn't mean the window will be easier to open; it'll actually make it harder to close. What I'll do now is email you a purchase link for (2) extended travel channel balances that you can use to place an order on our website.

If you have any questions just let me know!
