Removing a hinged window sash to replace balances

A home owner from NJ says:
Hello,

I would like some help with identifying the right part to replace my window channel balance. Windows are single sliding, channel balance is 26' L and 9/16 W. Attached are pictures of the existing channel balance. Also, as we attempted to take the window out, a strip of felt like material came off. Is there replacement for that.

Thanks,
Wanda

Hello,

We'd be happy to help but we would need to see a photo of your balance removed from the window. As far as the felt, it sounds like you might need new wool pile weatherstripping, which you can view here and compare to the dimensions of your original. Thank you!

A home owner from NJ says:
We are afraid that once we took the window out, we might not be able to put it back. The pictures are from the right side of the window, swing open side. Were you able to see those pics?

Thanks

We can see your photos but, unfortunately, there is just not enough of the balance that is visible while it's installed to make a confident recommendation for you. You are welcome to view our selection of channel balances for non-tilt windows here but you'll find it is difficult to get accurate dimensions and view of the attachments while it's installed.

Also, keep in mind that some balances need to be custom made and can't be replaced by any of the stock balances on our website, which is another reason we request detailed photos before recommending a replacement.

A home owner from NJ says:
Hi,

We were able to remove balance from one side, yet to figure how to remove sash. Anyways, here are additional pictures. Which is the correct replacement from your store please?

Thanks

Thank you! I believe your balances are for windows that are both double-hung and hinged. As a result, the balances on each side are different. They should be the same length but different fittings and stamp numbers.

One side would have a 19-008 top and 15-025 bottom fitting, which is shown attached to the balance in your photos, while the other side should have a 19-008 top and NO bottom fitting. If you can confirm that this is the orientation of your second balance, as well as the quantity that you need for each combination of attachments, we would be happy to get custom order links and price quotes together for you.

A home owner from NJ says:
Thanks Casey for your quick reply. We have yet figured out how to remove the sash. Does anyone know have experience with this type of windows? We google search for days snd have not come across this type of window. We tried pushing all the way to the top and it doesn't slide out. There is no stop clip on top. We can only swing to left side. Appreciate your help.

There is one person here who might have some insight to share on this kind of window. I'll discuss your situation with him and reach out with his recommendations.

It would be a great help if someone has experience with this type of window. Thanks again!

This window was Silverline Swinger window that hasn't been made since the turn of the century, so that might be the reason you can't find much information on the internet. It looks like you did figure how to release the 18-027 latch to swing the sash in towards you.

Now to remove the sash, you will need someone to hold on to the sash while another person knocks up the pins in the 15-058 hinges, similar to a door hinge. You will find a 26" balance with a top, 19-008, and bottom shoe 15-025 with a spring weight of 2530. On the hinge side, you will have a balance with just a top, 19-009, and no shoe with a spring weight of 2540.

Regarding the wool pile weatherstrip, we need the width of the bottom runner and height of the wool pile.
