Window Coil Replacement problem

Quick Learner from 08550
Hi,
I need some help in replacement of the window coil.
I already identified the part I need, actually I already did a previous replacement with swisco part previously but I had a problem and thus the question.

I uploaded two pictures. One with a broken coil that I would like to replace. Another is a 'previous job' I have done on the other side of the window. (a pretty bad job done).

The problem I have is, there is a 'screw' above the coil box which block me to move the coil and box up to take them out (the opening is at the top).
I tried to remove the screw, but it is very easy to break. You can see the other picture where I broke the screw and I had to cut another opening, which I did it very bad as you can see in the picture.

So my question is, what is that screw doing, how can I take it out? There is another philip head screw which looks to be easy to take out. What is that one doing there?

Thank you for your help!

Hello there! Thanks for reaching out to us. The exposed screw in question was used during the original installation of the entire window unit to help square the jambs. It is not meant to be exposed, and if it is then that means the window has come out of the square.

I'm afraid there isn't an easy repair for this. Our recommendation would be to consult the help of a professional as the whole window may need to be removed and reinstalled.

We'd be happy to help with the balance. To identify the compatible springs, we must first ID the pivot shoe. May we see a photo of yours removed from the window?

Hi Emily,
Thanks for look into my question. Attached picture is the original pivot shoe.

About my question on that screw. All my windows are like that on both sides (left and right) of the window. So I guess and hope it can't be all of them are 'coming out of square'?

Thank you for the additional photo! This shoe isn't something we sell but the 15-228 is similar and may be able to be used as an alternative. The compatible springs are the 1/2" S160 and 3/8" S165 depending on the width of your old spring band. You'll also want to check an old spring for a stamped weight code.

Dimensions for 15-228

Regarding the screw, have you tried turning it clockwise to see if it would go farther in so the balance system would clear?

Thank you Emily.
Regarding the screw, last time (the other side of the window) I tried, I broke the screw head. I am going to try it again and will be more careful this time.
