Window Jammed In closed position

Home Owner from Hoffman Estates, IL
My window is jammed in the fully closed position. I noticed some pieces of broken plastic when I locked it. I'm not sure how to remove window now that's it's jammed closed. Do I remove the terminal clip and try to pull the window up?

The markings on my channel balance are 26 4 6V CMC 1 and the length is 27".

Hello,

It sounds like you may have broken top sash guides, which keep the balances in place below the sash. See our video below that shows how to repair a jammed window.

We would also need to see an undamaged balance and top sash guide removed from the window to research your replacement options. Thank you!

Hello Casey, thank you for your response.

I have included the code on the balance and measurement of it above from a different window in my home that's the same size. The sash guides are just the common ones.

The problem with my jammed window is that the balances are both at the bottom along with the window as opposed to the video which is at the top. I opened the lock and that's not the problem either. The top sash guides are jammed like you said but I'm just not sure how to raise the window up to the removal point so then I can replace all the hardware.

It is a bit strange that you're saying that the balances are stuck at the bottom of the window since, as shown in our video, the balances are under a lot of tension and would spring to the top of the window if the top sash guides were broken. It's possible that the cause of your window being jammed could be unrelated to the top sash guides but we can't be sure without being there to troubleshoot the problem. I'd recommend starting by lubricating the balances with something like silicone spray to see if that would loosen them up enough to open the window. If not, it may be a good idea to enlist the help of a local professional to do a more thorough evaluation of the window than what we are able to accomplish through photos.

Thank you. I pried it up front underneath on each side and it starting moving until I could get my hands in underneath, move it up and then remove it.

Solution: The balances needed replacement. The old were just worn out from 18 years of use. Now it works smooth and moves very easily with the touch of one just hand! ?
