Window Latch

Quick Learner from Edinburgh
Looking for replacement latches for those shown in the photos. I think they come from Ducana windows from about 15-20 years ago.

Thanks for posting. I'm not sure if we have an exact match, but there are a couple possibilities. See our 26-120 and 26-121, as well as our 26-228 and 26-229. Could you use either of these pairs?

Hi

I hope this finds you well and I hope that you can offer me some assistance.

I have the same windows as those discussed in this thread and I am having the same trouble sourcing replacement tilt latches. I note that you have recommended replacements with a hole spacing of 2-1/8 inches. The spacing on the original latches is 2-1/4 inches. I was wondering if you have any latches with that screw hole spacing and if not would it be advisable to drill new holes in the frame to accommodate the spacings available.

Do you ship parts to Scotland? If so I would be grateful if you could advise me of the shipping costs and approximately how long delivery might take.

I have attached some photos of one of the broken latches and one photo of the screws left in place after one of the latches disintegrated.

Thanks for your help with my enquiry

Cheers for now

Hi

I have just found a latch with part number 26-195 that has a screw hole spacing that might just be close enough to work. I was wondering if you could advise me of the distance from the actual latch end, ie the business end where it holds onto the window frame, to the nearest screw hole. If it is around 20cm (13/16ths)then it could be a solution. I'm assuming that the width isn't important as long as it is narrower than the window sash.

Thanks again

Cheers for now

Hello, Billy. If your hole spacing is 2-1/8" then I personally would avoid the 26-195. It's just slightly off enough that you'll have trouble screwing it in, and trying to force it in that hole would prevent it from working.

Two better options would be our 26-121 (opposite side being 26-120). This has the same hole spacing as yours with a front hole backset of 3/4", which is very close to yours. I would triple check that dimension just to be safe. You are right in assuming that the width isn't all that important. Your width appears to be 1-1/2" so you should have plenty of room.

If the backset is definitely 13/16", then that might be a dealbreaker. That's an uncommon size. The only product in our inventory that matches that is our 26-337 (sold with both sides included as a pair), but this has only a 2" hole spacing. That actually may still work for you, though, since you could theoretically redrill the back hole. With the difference being 1/8" then you should have enough room between the original back hole and the new back hole that they won't overlap. Just be very careful not to drill into the glass, since that could risk it cracking. Just something to keep in mind.
