Window Parts Needed

Handy Person from Manassas, Va
We have a house full of window that will not stay up.  They have an old block and tackle balance in them that I assume isn't made anymore.  Can you all help with finding a possible replacement for these.  It does have a PAT# 5.737.877.  Can they same replacement part be used in all the windows , or would that be dependent on the size of the window? Also looking replacement sash locks , and tilt latches.

Hello! You are correct, these balances aren't made anymore. We should be able to help, but I need more information from you.

To start, please remove an undamaged version of this balance and show me a clear photo of the top and bottom ends. I'm chiefly interested in the clip that connects to the track at the top and the shoe that connects to the sash at the bottom.

While the balance is out, please measure its length and the diameter of the spring and tell me what you get. The spring diameter should be either 3/8" or 1/2". Lastly, please weigh the sash on a scale and tell me what you get. This needs to be precise down to the ounce.

It is essential that the balance you show us be undamaged. It is not possible to accurately garner size from a damaged assembly as shown in your photos. There is no way around that. If you do not have an undamaged assembly, then it will be impossible for us to advise on size.

If you have different window sizes in the house that all use the same kind of balance, then odds are they all have different sized balances as well. You will need to repeat this process in each case.

Concerning the tilt latch and lock, see our 26-243 and 26-244, as well as the 90-180 lock. Make sure to carefully review our dimensions before you buy anything to ensure that everything lines up. We have other options if they don't, so just let me know.
