Hi, this is John
I have a dbl hung window with both top and bottom panes dropping when opened. I am not there so only have the attached label pictures to go by. From what I am finding they may be Simonton windows?
There are 3 windows in the unit and I would like to rebuild them all if possible. Can you help with identifying parts? One of the tilt-out latches on the bottom pane actually broke when it dropped so I would like to replace them too. I would like to replace anything that is replaceable.

Hi John. It sounds like these windows need new balances. Unfortunately there are many different types of balances that Simonton windows might use. The only way to know what you need is to remove the old hardware and show us. See this blog post here that details all you'd need to know about window balances.

Thanks Bob. I got all of the parts out and attached photos. I have one broken spring, two broken balance shoes (I think that's the right name) and a bent pivot pin. The spring is stamped 408. Don't see any other numbers. If you can let me know what I need to order I'd appreciate it. I'll be ordering spares. Definitely Simonton windows. Should I also order the spreading tools? These were a little difficult to get out but not terrible.

Thanks! This looks like the old Simonton coil balance system. Simonton stopped making these, unfortunately, but we can still help.

To start, the pivot bar can be replaced by our 26-336. Simonton actually made this specifically to replace your original model.

They did not make anything to replace the balance assembly, so we like to use our Certainteed brand parts instead. See our 15-192 shoe, Series 170 and Series 171 coil springs, and finally the 15-156 cover and 15-157 bushing. The video I'll share at the end of this post will show you how it all works together.

There is a catch, though. You weren't going to get away without some trouble. Since our parts are Certainteed, not Simonton, the pivot shoe will not be 100% compatible with the 26-336 pivot bar (or even your old pivot bar). That means you need to reuse the metal cam off of your old pivot shoes. They should just pop in and out of the plastic housing. Make sure to hold onto those for now! You'll need them.
