Sash Replacement

Quick Learner from New York
Greetings

I have already replaced the pivot shoes. My issue is actually getting the window into place. Both shoes are at the same height.I can get one side in alright, however when I try to set the other side into place it keeps hitting the pivot shoe and it's not able to go in. What am I doing wrong?.

To get the sash in, you'll first have to adjust the shoes so that one side is higher than the other. Then you would put the sash in at an angle; insert the pivot bar in the lower side first, then the other. You should have enough clearance to get the second pivot bar just about in the higher pivot shoe. Then you need to start tilting the sash into place while at the same time forcing the pivot shoes into position.

I know that sounds a bit awkward. The video below should help clarify things. You can see how we put the sash into a window that uses the same exact style pivot shoe you're working with now. The rest of the video is about replacing spiral balances, but you can ignore that.

Perfect, adjusting the shoes accordingly worked. I had to give it a few try's but I got it. Thanks for the advice and the video.
