Window Sash Balances

Home Owner from Waverly, Iowa
These two balances were broken in a double hung, tilt window; upper sash. I've looked everywhere on the windows and cannot find a manufacturer name, nor a part number anywhere. Hoping you can identify this part and help me to find replacements.

Thanks,
Bob

Hey there Bob.

This looks like an older version of the 15-180 shoe. The Series 190 are the compatible coil balances. Take a look at the specifications and let us know if you have any questions.

Hey Emily,

Thank you for the info. I clicked on the links you provided. I'm pretty sure the shoes are in good shape. It's the steel springs that I'm looking to replace. The "Series 190" link is asking that I choose a "balance stamp" from my original spring. There is no stamp anywhere on these springs. At a loss here. Can you help?

Certainly. Since there aren't any stamps on the old springs, you'll have to weigh the window sash and divide the weight by the total number of springs in the window to determine the proper coil weights. Feel free to get back to us with the sash weight and we can calculate what you'd need from there.

Hey Emily,

The window sash weighs 18.6 lbs. I assume there would be two coils per side?
Let me know what to do next. Thanks so much for your help thus far!

No problem, I'm happy to help!

With this sash weight, we recommend using one S190-440 4-pound spring and one S190-540 5-pound spring on each side of the window. With 9 pounds of support per side, this would total 18 pounds of overall support. You can reuse your old double coil spring support and bushing if they're in good shape.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Awesome!! Thanks so much Emily!! I'll go ahead and order the 440's and 540's. Looks like the support and bushings are in good shape.
