Window Spring Balance Replacement or Substitute Parts

I have A DOZEN 28"W X 54"H Double Hung windows, which are from the late 70's, with roughly half of the springs broken. Looking for replacement parts... see image attached.
1. Overall winds
2. Spring
3. Spring Close up\

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello,

This looks like an old-style Caradco balance. To determine if we can supply these for you, we would need to know the exact length of the tube and the color painted on the bottom. You'll need to remove the balance to see the color. Lastly, let us know how many balances you need and we can go from there. Thank you.

I'm wondering if a "spiral balance" might be used as a substitute?

Unfortunately, our spiral balances are not meant to replace your Caradco balances.

Do you know if I need to remove the window in order to remove the balance.

II can see how the top attaches to the frame that hold the windows. Not sure how the bottom is attached to the window

If I recall correctly, you would push one side of the sash into the track and swing-out the other side of the sash while pulling the balance top out of the window track at the same time. Then, pull out the other side balance top from the track. You would then unscrew the bottom of the balance from the sash.

As Casey mentioned, we will need the length of the plastic tube, not including the nylon ends. We will also need the color of the spring tip inside the bottom of the balance.
