Window Will Not Stay Open - Only Lower Window Moves or Tilts

Home Owner from Canton, GA
I have five windows in my home exactly the same. 64" from bottom to top. Lower window is the only part that moves. And when I open it up, it will not stay open. It slams down hard. I've taken two of the windows apart (ie, removed the balance and pivot feet). I'd like to replace all the springs and feet. But I don't know the parts needed. Nor am confident how to know how many times to twist the springs. So I guess three parts:
1) Is it fixable with replacement parts?
2) What are the parts?
3) And if it involves a spring balance, how do I install them?
Only one of the four springs had any color tip remaining, and it appears to be orange.

Hey there,

Thanks for getting in touch! It sounds like either your balances need tension added back into them or they may need to be replaced altogether. That said, to start, take a look at the video tutorial below for an idea on how to add tension to the balance. This is done using the 75-006 charging tool.

If you would prefer to just go ahead and replace the balances, I believe you may need the S900-32 with a red tip option, but you'll need to be sure to double check that your balances have a 3/8" diameter and a 32" length. Keep in mind, you'll also likely need to add tension to these balances when installing them.

I'm sorry to say we would not be able to provide you with replacements for the balance covers, so you'll need to reuse them if at all possible.

Thank you Jasmine,
I'm thinking about replacing all the springs and pivot shoes.
Should I take pictures and measurements of them as well, out of the frame?
Thanks a bunch.

If you are going to replace them and you are unsure if the other hardware is similar to these balances and shoes, it would be a good idea to review them and confirm their measurements.

To replace the shoe, I believe you'll need the 15-045 but you'll need to be sure to compare the dimensions, of course. There are a few videos tagged below with instructions on how to remove them as well

Thanks a bunch. The dimensions are exactly what your picture has there.
Going to order 10 of the shoes and 10 of the balances.
Fingers crossed for windows that stay open.
