Window balance

A quick learner from Los Angeles says:
I want to replace the balance
Length is 28 inches
But the number on the metal say 27 space 4
So I'm a little confused about the number on the metal
Can you help me to find the right size
Thanks

This is a good question. That number on the balance actually doesn't designate the metal channel length--not exactly, anyways. For a channel balance in a non-tilt window, the '27' actually refers to the height of visible glass in the window sash. The balance's metal channel length is typically 1" longer than this. So a balance stamped 27-4 usually has a metal channel that is 28" long (not including the nylon fittings).

The 4, meanwhile, is indicating the spring calibration inside the balance. For a balance stamped 27-4, you'll want to choose a stamp option in our rating system of 2740.

If you need help identifying the right balance Series replacement (or the identity of the balance), show us pictures of the other nylon fitting as well, and we'll do our best to narrow this down for you.
