Window balance

Thanks for your patience during this busy season. We may be able to supply this balance, but before I recommend anything I need a few pieces of information.

To start, can you show me a picture of the plastic pivot shoe that was at the bottom end of the channel?

Can you also tell me how wide the channel itself is?

Finally, how many of these did you need?

Thank you. I believe you have the old 28" Ply Gem window balance. The bottom pivot attachment is unfortunately no longer available. They stopped making this and it's not possible for us to supply.

One solution I've tried before that has tentatively worked would be to use a custom type of ribbed balance that we sell called the Series 752. This is not a standard product in our inventory, but it's a ribbed channel very much like yours at 3/8" wide. It uses the 15-230 shoe.

Since the 15-230 shoe is so different from your original, what you would need to do is increase the length of the balance by 2" to make up the difference. You might also need a new pivot bar, like our 26-448, but retrofitting this to the sash is easier said than done. 

Another solution is to use the Series 752 in the same length as your original, but reusing the metal clip that connects to the pivot shoe. If your old metal clip is reusable, this might be better to ensure compatibility.

It's important to understand that custom balances are non-refundable. Additionally, we can't guarantee it will work; our balance is not technically made to work on this window, it's just my best theory.

Let me know if you want to pursue this, and if so, which of these two options you'd prefer. You'll definitely need to confirm that the metal channel is 3/8". I also strongly advise you to get the sash weight (I'm guessing between 33 and 35 pounds but you need to be sure). I can then send you a quote for 2.
