Window balancer

A home owner from Lenhartsville, pa says:

I'm having a hard time finding a part to replace my balancers. Hope you can help me.

Some of the strings tore on one of my doublehung windows and I disassembled and removed both balancers. Can't seem to identify or find what I need.

I'll give you what info I can. This house was built in 1968 and these windows are the originals. I can't find a single mark anywhere on the window. The balancers have some numbers stamped on them (U.S. patent no 3146482 and pat 1965 ca or 1985 ca). It measures 6 1\2" x 3" x 3 \4" . The window measures(glass) 24" wide x 16" high each. I did call Anderson and they seem to lean that this style balancer is Anderson only but they are baffled about the fact that there are no marks anywhere. By the glass size and guessing it is a 200 window, they gave me the Anderson part number of 126024.

Hope you can help and I also sent some pics.

Thanks

Jim

Hi, Jim. Thanks for your patience during this busy season. I agree with Andersen, your balance definitely should have stamps on it. That's how they're identified and it's strange that yours never had any.

I'm not sure what you may need based on window size alone, but I do know that's not the most reliable method of identification. It can be serviceable in a pinch. Did you check the other balance on the other side of your window? If not, check to see if that has stamps.

In the meantime, we'll look into your window size and see if we can use that to ID a match.

Thanks and yes both balancers have the same stamping on it. Yes anderson seemed baffled also, stating their windows have stamping on the glass, sash, balancers and more. But not one anywhere. Are these balancers exclusive anderson? Good luck and thanks.

Based on your photos, dimensions of the balance box, and the window glass size, I am lead to believe you can use our 24-531 Andersen sash balance to replace your original. Like Tom said, this is not a guarantee, but it is our best educated guess.
