Window crank and cover

A home owner from New York says:
I purchased an operator cover because it was cracked. Apparently that is not the problem. Do I need to replace the whole assembly? The window cranks open but not closed. The screw seems to back out and crack the cover. This was the 2nd operator cover I bought and when trying to close the window, the cover cracked again. The 2nd one will do the same if I try to close the window completely.

Thanks for posting. Yes, when the worm gear falls out of the operator, as you show in your second photo, its a sign that the entire operator has worn down and needs to be replaced. We can help you do this, but I need to see the entire operator removed from the window, or at least from a bird's eye perspective with the window open, so that way the link arm(s) in full view. From there, we will narrow down possible replacements. Many thanks.
