Window not opening, crank lost connection and coming out
When inspecting the mechanism the crank only partly connects with the teeth so the easiest will be to replace it. It turns a few times but they window won't open.
The problem is, the window can't be opened. We already had 2 different handyman look at it but with no luck. It seems to be stuck in the mechanism and we can't get the mechanism off either, it won't come lose. Can we even replace the mechanism if the window can't open?
Do you have any advice?
The only option left I see is to try to break the metal casing completely but that won't be that easy.
I could really use your help
Thanks for reaching out to us. There are a few ideas on how to open the operator without cutting or breaking the operator housing body. First, try removing the handle from the worm gear and using a set of pliers or vise grips to turn the worm gear while pushing it into the operator's body to try to open the window. Next, I can see the mounting screws are accessible from the face of the operator. Try unscrewing the operator and see if you can access the arms to try and pull the arms together. With the arms together (if you can), push on the operator to try and open it. And lastly with the operator unscrewed from the window, pull on the operator and try cutting the arms to free up the window.
Once you do get the operator removed, take a look at the parts we have related for you on this page. They're just educated guesses so you'll have to compare the specifications with yours to determine the best match. You're also welcome to upload photos of the operator to this page once it's removed. Good luck!
This is really helpful.
Let me try those different approaches and see how far we get.
Thanks,
