Window parts

Question

I recently purchased the item on the left of the image (from this site) to replace the old broken part on the right.  Everything is a match except the new one is shorter and when installed the latches for the window do not grab the small angled lock that holds the window securely closed.  Is there another alternative that would fit properly?

I see what you mean, both of these parts do look to be identical other than the height. The bad news is that there isn't another part similar to the 36-018J but taller, at least not to my knowledge. For some reason the manufacturer just makes them short now, likely to accommodate newer window designs. I would suggest trying to shim up the new part to see if that helps.
