Window parts

Contractor from Weaverville, NC

I am needing replacement parts for some double hung vinyl windows. It looks like the old style has been replaced with a duo version. I am needing the parts that replace the old ones if possible.

Thank you,

Matt

Hi, Matt.

This old crossbow balance isn't made anymore but we can help replace it with one of our modern options. Before we get started, I'll need you to confirm a few things.

  • Could you confirm the diameter of the spring? It should be either 1/2" or 3/8". I'm thinking it should be 3/8" but I want to be 100% sure.
  • Can you also confirm the length of your balance? If possible, please measure an undamaged balance (from the bottom of the red shoe to the top of the nylon cap at the other end) and tell me what you get.
  • Second, can you verify how it installs at the top of the channel, be it with a hook or a screw tab?
  • I would also request the exact weight of the sash, down to the ounce. Please be as precise as possible since we need to re-calculate how the spring ought to be calibrated.
  • Lastly, how many did you need altogether?

Hey Emily,

The diameter of the spring is 3/8"

The length is 26 1/2"

It installs with a screw tab

The sash weighs 17lb 6 ounces

I need at least two but may get more depending on the cost.

Thanks for you're help!

Matt
