Window repair

Question

Hi,
I have 2 aluminum single hung windows with tilt-in that would not stay up. Had a windows person came out and he said that spiral balances are broken and want to sell me new windows. It seems that it should be fixable as all the parts are available on this site, bit I can't find any handyman or windows company people to do it.

Any recommendations for a person in my area to do it?

I also need to pick the right color of the balance as mine does not have a color. Don't want to take out the window as I'm afraid that I wont be able to put it back.

Hello!

Thanks for reaching out to us. Since this is a tilt window, I recommend either the 3/8" Series 900 or the 5/8" Series 600. You'll want to measure the outer metal tube diameter to determine the proper Series for this repair. When it comes to determining the length, you also want to measure only the metal tube. As for the tip color, I'm afraid you will have to weigh the window sash on a scale to confirm the appropriate option. We've related a video on this page that you may find helpful as well.
