Window sash balance repair

Question

I am noticing that I need new window sash channel balance but also I noticed that the piece on the actual window that hold the balances are also broken. I?m not sure what the name is. Also I measured the length using a tape measure when using that I cane up with 30in but the number on the sash balance says 29 should I go with 29?

Thanks for posting. Looks like you need a top sash guide. We can help, but I'd like to see an undamaged version. If possible, please show us a photo of it form the front and side, sort of like a mug shot.

As for the balance, it's normal that a 30" long balance would have a stamp starting with "29." That said, your stamp is an older, outdated rating system that has fallen out of use. You will need to weigh your sash on a scale to confirm the best option.
