Window sash spring balance hidden

Question

I am trying to figure out the technology behind these shash spring balances before removing then completely if possible.

When I pull the metal tab on the bottom of the sash, a king could spring comes down.

What is this type of balance called?

Unfortunately, we do not carry replacement parts for the old-style balance system shown in your photos. I would recommend reaching out to a local millwork that may be able to fabricate new parts for your repair. Thanks for posting!
