Window will not stay in the open position

I recently purchased a new home. One of the windows falls every time you try and open it. I am not familiar with the terminology of window parts but I believe the part that has broken is part of the balance. From what I can tell this is screwed into the window frame and keeps the balance from shooting up. I have tried local big box stores and no one knows what this part is or how to find a replacement.
