Windows don't stay up

Several windows don't stay in the "up position" . The piece pictured is a working window. The ones that don't don't have this piece. Built approximately 1984.

Hello! It sounds like the issue is with your balance. These are spring loaded mechanisms on either side of the window that keep it up when raised. If your window isn't staying up, then you need new balances.

Unfortunately, I cannot determine what you have from these photos. You'll have to remove one of the existing balances and show us a clear photo of the top and bottom nylon fitting, as well as the stamp printed on the metal channel.
