Wool pile

A home owner from USA says:
I am planning on replacing the pile on my stormm windows. Looks like 3/16 wide will do but not sure about height (3/16 or 1/4). Also should I purchase with or without Fin Seal? Any difference between white or gray other than color? I believe the storms that I have are from Harvey Industries. Thanks for your help, great website.

Sure, we may be able to help. The only problem with choosing the height is that if you use a pile that is too tall it might create too much friction between the storm sash and main frame, which makes it harder to operate. Color, on the other hand, is just a matter of personal preference. It has no bearing on the quality of the pile.

Personally, I would not advise using the fin seal. This could also create a problem with friction. When we where manufacturing storm windows, we used the 58-001. It worked well in our framing. The 58-001 is normally the standard in the industry, as a matter of fact. Check it out and let me know if you think it would work. If you want a tighter fit, you should consider our 58-002. I would not go any higher, or you may risk the windows not operating well.
