Wrong size balances

Quick Learner from golden, colorado

I ordered the wrong size balances (S745-26 [25.25-4] and S745-32 [31.25-4]), the springs in the new balances are longer than the old ones and the cord might be too short when the balance is put in the window , see picture .

I may have used the wrong weight of the window when I chose them

I' d like to exchange them for the correct ones for windows weighing about 21 lb Before I did not see the numbers on the old balances The numbers are 3650 or 3680 for the six 26-1/4 and number 3872 for the 2 32-1/4 I had ordered

How do I return the wrong balances and order the correct balances?

Thank you

Thanks for contacting us. I see you ordered our Series 745 Peachtree balances. However, I cannot confirm if these match your old ones. Your photos show a confusing mix of new and old balances, so I'm not sure which ones you're showing are your originals and which ones are the ones you purchased.

Since you ordered two sizes, please post a picture of each size of the old balances. Do not show us a photo of the ones you bought from us. I need to see one clear photo of the top of the metal channel, one clear photo of the bottom, one clear photo of the stamp, and one clear photo of the hook, clip, or shoe at the end of the cord. I don't know what it'll be, but if it's at the end of the cord then I need to see it.

I will also need you to weigh the sashes that these balances will support and tell me the exact weight, down to the ounce. Don't worry about the length of the actual spring, that doesn't matter. Some short springs are the same strength as springs that are longer, sometimes they're stronger, and sometimes they're weaker. It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer so it isn't worth considering. Sash weight alone will allow us to determine what you have.

Here is the info you requested and the photos

  • weight of 26-1/4 balance 18.0 lb (without balances)
  • weight of 32-1/4 balance 19.2 lb ( ,, )

Photos:

  • pictures of each size of old balances
  • photo of top of metal channel, photo of bottom of metal channel
  • photos of each stamp 26-1/4=3660 32-1/4=3672
  • photo of hook at the end of cord

Thank you! Looking at your 26-1/4" long balance with a sash weight of 18 pounds, I'd recommend the 25.25-3 option. The one you ordered, 25.25-4, appears to be too strong.

For the 32-1/4" long balance, I recommend the 31.25-3 for your 19 pound sash. This is also a grade lower than what you purchased.

I don't think spring length in this case will matter too much. Looking over your photos, I don't see anything that would affect the function of the window. Different spring lengths can have the same tension; long springs can be weak, and short springs can be strong. It's better to just focus on sash weight and their corresponding stamp options.

You can return the balances you ordered from us for a full refund and then place a new order for the correct stamp options. See our return policy here.
