Thanks for posting. This appears to be either an S380-30 or S385-30. The only difference between these two channel balances is the depth of the bottom nylon shoe, or the 'heel-to-toe' measurement. See the illustration below. Compare both with your old balance to see what matches best.

You then have to choose a stamp option, which indicates the balance's strength. Your old stamp of 2990 is not from a rating system in use any longer. To know what stamp to select, I advise weighing the window sash that these balances support. You can then match that exact weight with one of the weight ranges listed alongside each stamp option under the product description of either the S380-30 or S385-30 product page. Let me know if you have further questions.

Width of the bottom fitting is 1" so we are dealing with S-380 series.

I have the following windows for which I need replacement balances:

  • 12#, 24"--four balances (two windows)
  • 24#, 24"--four balances (two windows)
  • 28-30# (estimated), 30"--six balances (3 windows)

The last ones have plantation shutters on the windows, and I cannot remove the windows to weigh them without removing the shutters. Is this weight estimate close enough?

I would prefer to remove and reinstall the shutters only once if possible.

Thanks for your capable assistance.

Looking forward to getting all these windows repaired.

I figured it out. Ordered balances for all my windows. Your site is very helpful and instructions quite clear.

Hello again! This is called a Top Sash Guide. As you probably surmised, it keeps the channel balance secured and aligned with the window sash. This might be either our 18-009 or 18-166. Compare the diagrams below with your old guide, and let me know if one of these matches what you have, or if it differs in any way.
