casement window operator

Question

I have a Greatlakes casement window with a crank opener.  It is about 19 years old.  The crank will open the window fine BUT when I go to close the window the crank just spins and won't close window.  HELP

There are a couple reasons why this might be happening. The first thing I'd do, if I were you, is carefully examine the hinge and operator track to see if any dirt or debris is hanging up the operation of the window.

A good way to confirm this is to disconnect the operator entirely and then try to open and close the window manually, by hand. If you still run into issues, then there is definitely some kind of obstruction. However if the window opens and closes normally, then the operator is probably broken and needs to be replaced.
