I cannot determine the channel I need either 380 or 385. The metal channel is 30 inches long but I do not know how to measure the shoe depth. Is it from top to bottom or front to back?

The measurement is from front to back. Imagine that the balance shoe is an actual shoe, where the flat winged side represents the heel, and the point on the opposite end of the balance shoe is the toe. My shoe (my real shoe, as in "Adidas") is 12" from heel to toe, for example, and this is the same measurement you should take of your balance shoe: heel to toe.
It sounds like your heel to toe measurement is 15/16". Verify that. If it really is, then you have the Series 380 balance. If the metal bar, without plastic attachments, measures 30", then you have S380-30.
