21 12 BS channel balances

A landlord from LC~Rockledge,FL says:
I need replacement channel balances for a non-tilting, single hung, double glass window. The existing balance resembles your S351 model. The metal portion is 22" long, with the plastic top and shoe extending a little past that length. The stamped ID information on the existing channel balance is: 21 12 BS | DA. Photos are attached.

I found an explanation of the stamped code saying that 21 means 22" metal length and 12 means 12 pounds of support. Based upon this info I went ahead and placed order with your company.

Thanks for posting. I'm not sure if that 12 on your stamp indicates 12 pounds of support. I highly recommend weighing your sash on a scale to confirm. If memory serves, a stamp of 21 12 is a special stamp for heavier sashes. The only way to confirm is to weigh your sash.

A quick learner from LC~Rockledge,FL says:
You are right on that! The 12 lb rated balances didn't come close to holding up the window sash. I will weigh the sash. If it weighs 40 lbs, does that mean I need two channel balances each rated at 40 lbs, or two rated at 20 lbs.

Tom from SWISCO responded:

If it weighs 40 pounds, you want two balances rated for 40 pounds. For channel balances, you don't want to distribute the weight between them like you would for, say, coil balances. Let me know if your sash weight exceeds the options we have available for the S351-22, we could specially make something for you.

A quick learner from LC~Rockledge,FL says:
The sash weighs 34 to 35 lbs on a fairly good bathroom scale, so I ordered two S351-22 channel balances for that weight range. Hopefully this will work close enough. Thanks for the assistance.
