coil balance

A quick learner from Westchester Co, NY says:

I'm trying to repair my elderly neighbors vinyl window that won't stay up. One coil, on the right side front window, is broken. The coil on the left, front left side of window, has a kink in it and is ready to break also. I haven't been able to find out the manufacture of the window. I've removed the broken coil and believe your 180 coil balances are the ones I need. I've weighed myself, first, and then weighed myself again, with the window, and the difference is 13 pounds. The highest weight coil you have, I see, is 9 pounds. Can I use that one or do you have one for 13 pounds?

7 15x

Thanks for writing in! You're right, you need our Series 180 Coil Balances; these are used with the 15-087 Pivot Shoe. If your window weighs exactly 13 lbs, use (1) of the S180-7 on each side of the sash. This coil spring holds 7 lbs of weight individually. This will equal 14 lbs of total support; plus or minus a pound shouldn't affect window operation. The stamp '7' on your old springs indicate that this should be the correct choice. Let us know if you need anything else.
