coil balance replacement

Question

My windows have series 180 coil balances with 15-087 coil housing and 15-086 tandem coil housing. Can I replace this system with series 160 coil balance system and if so what parts do I need for the replacement.

Hey Gary. Unfortunately no; with some exceptions, replacing coil balance systems with different Series is generally not recommended. This is compounded in your case by the fact that the Series 180 and the 15-087 and 15-086 housing blocks have a pretty peculiar way of operating, in that the coils move with the housing assembly (they tend to be stationary and fixed to the top of the window track in other set ups). Basically, unless you have reason to think the Series 180 is not what your window originally used, we highly advise sticking with the same Series and parts to avoid complications which are almost certainly going to arise otherwise.
