constant force balance replacement

A home owner from Maryland says:
We need to replace two traco quick tilt constant force balances. I took pictures of how it looks now. The window is Traco. Maybe you can help me by looking at the pictures. And what really needs answered is how do we take out the old balances out without ruining the window? To me it looks like a coil broke off. And it looks like there are three coils in the balance. The window only weighs maybe close to 4 lbs.

This looks like a 15-087 Pivot Shoe and 15-086 Tandem Housing. This system uses our Series 180 Coil Springs. For information on removing the system, see the video below. If you're uncertain of what spring weights you need, please confirm the exact weight of the window sash. It looks like you have multiple coils on each side of the sash, so it must be heavier than 4 lbs. Many thanks.

A home owner from Maryland says:
Yes the window weighs 18 lbs. Looks like there are two coils on each side of the window. If the coils are measured in weight as I see on your chart, do we buy 4 coils of 4lbs. or 4 coils of 5lbs (two on each side)?

If the window weighs exactly 18 lbs, then use an S180-4 4 lb spring and S180-5 5 lb spring on each side of the sash. This equals 9 lbs of support on both sides, for a total of 18 lbs of support overall.
