cover plate missing?

A quick learner from Fort Mill, SC says:

The photo shows my door, but it appears there is a cover plate missing that covers the latch assembly and extends beyond the length of the latch assembly. Home was purchased but did not catch that this part is missing. Is there a plate missing? The latch assembly is not very secure as-is so my only thought is that there must be a cover plate that secures the latch assembly to the door. The only thing holding the latch in place is the locking tab....

Thanks for your help.

Hey, Doug. There does appear to be a cover plate missing based on that silhouette, but going by the design of the door I don't think it'll be necessary for it to function. We don't sell cover plates separately, but we do sell the 82-226 and 82-227. You may have had one of these originally, depending on the hole spacing of the cover plate.
