crank replacement?

Home Owner from West Chaster, PA
This is the type of crank on all our windows. We just moved in, and want to possibly install plantation shutters. The crank handles seem too long for this, and probably also too long for many types of blinds. Are smaller crank handles available to replace these?

Thank you.

We sell a variety of folding handles and T-shaped handles that will work for this, but none of them will offer you the clearance you need to install blinds. In almost all cases, the blinds must be installed in such a way to make room for the operator, not the other way around. The issue isn't with the size of the handles, it's the metal stem you see sticking out of the operator base. This is not something that can be adjusted, moved, or replaced, and basically represents your biggest obstacle. You have no choice but to work around this stem.

For now, I think the part that will give you the most clearance is our 39-107FK. This is a handle and cover kit that folds down and nests when not in use, but you will still need the blinds to give it the clearance necessary.

Hello. I received my order of 39-197FK folding handles and covers, to replace the old handles and covers in my new home. They fir and operate perfectly. However, while doing the replacement job, one cover would not snap on. On close examination, I noticed the notched shaft to which the handle attached was sticking out farther than those on the other windows, also, the casing around that crank shaft has a crack in it. I'm guessing I need a whole new window crank device replacement. I have attached a photo, hoping you may direct me to the proper part number. Thank you.

You are correct, unfortunately. The operator you show here will need to be replaced entirely. What happened is that it was cranked too far in one direction too many times. Over-tightening an operator handle will cause this exact kind of damage.

We can definitely help, but I will require a photo of the rest of the mechanism. You only show the base here, which is definitely helpful, but I will also need to see the arms that physically pull close and push open the window. Please let me know if that will be possible and I can make a recommendation.
