Can't fit this spindle in the 40-150

Question

My fiance and I ordered Part #40-150 inside handle on 7/22/12. It was delivered yesterday. However, we soon realized we also need the square rod hardware that goes through the middle, and the replacement handle hole is too small for the rod set up we have. Please tell me if we need to order the complete set up for both the iniside and outside of the door. We cannot install the new handle as is. I am attempting to send two photos of the broken handle and new handle. Please let me know what we need to fix the handle

Good morning, Nancy and Mark! Have you tried to remove the insert of the 40-150 in order to accommodate the larger spindle spindle size?

40-150 spindle size and screw measurements

To remove the spindle insert, you can use a 3/32 Allen wrench to loosen the bolt on the side of the handle, which will cause the spindle insert to fall out. The 40-150 accepts a 1/8" spindle with the insert, and a 3/8" spindle without the insert. Let me know if this information has helped!
