what is the difference between roller 81-249 and 81-244

The 81-244 has a flange at the bottom of the roller housing, while the 81-249 does not. We have detailed pictures, measurements, and information for each product on their respective store pages that you can use for future reference.

I am convinced that there is no reason the 81-249 would not be able to replace 81-244. Can someone verify?

I believe it depends how old the door is. The 81-249 is for doors from back in the 1960's and the 81-244 is for the newer style doors. Our rule of thumb is to always use the exact roller that came with the door, just in case.
