droped the old mortise lock into door frame

A home owner from texas says:
Replacing old lock with new. I neglected to remove the old lock correctly and it fell down within the doorframe.

Any suggestions on how to remove the old lock? Is it a problem if i just leave it in there (old latch is broken)?

Bob from SWISCO responded:

This isn't an uncommon problem with the 82-218 Mortise Lock, which I suspect is what you had. Unfortunately, getting the old lock out is probably near impossible--unless you wanted to cut a hole in your door. It's not going to affect function at all so you're really fine just leaving it in there and using a new one.
