exchanging plastic sash cam for a metal one?

Quick Learner from Portland OR
Hi, I have some plastic sash cams for my Milgard vinyl windows that I had to replace, that look pretty much like this Stepped Sash Guide, Alpine
Product Code: 18-171

Wondering if replacing with aluminum ones would work and be more durable? The old ones cracked

Thanks for reaching out to us. I don't believe there is a metal alternative for the 18-171 sash guide. Most of these sash guides are made of plastic to help the window sash move smoothly in the window.

As Dave said, there isn't a metal alternative for this top sash guide. As a policy, we recommend sticking with the original hardware the window is designed to use.

However, after comparing the 18-065 to the 18-171, the depth of the 18-065 would make the sash too tight with the balances installed. The length of the top sash guide isn't critical so take a look at our 18-012. It has a close depth to the 18-171 so we can't promise it will work for you but take a look at the specifications and see what you think.
