FACE MOUNT KEEPER, 7/8"

I am helping a friend replace some broken window locks and face mount keeper.
How do I install this part of the window, lock face mount keeper? It is recessed, I am not sure how it is secured into the window itself.

The 90-041 keeper actually drops into a cut-out in the top sash rail. To be honest, I'd like to see your friend's window keeper, so I can help you two pick the correct one. Can you take a photo and send it in?
