Two of my American Craftsman 3' x 6' windows have the string loosened on the left side. How do I repair it? Why is it loose? Also, two of my double hung American Craftsman windows will not close all the way so that I can lock them. Any suggestions?

Hi there Portia.
It sounds like your balances need to be replaced. That may be the reason you're having issues with your windows. Can you remove an undamaged balance assembly from the window and show us some photos? We specifically would like to see photos of the top and bottom fittings as well as a clear shot of the inside of the metal channel where the inner spring connects to the pulley mechanism.
I'm not sure what kind of balance you have just yet but we've related a few videos on this page that you may find helpful.
