Appears the each side of the balance "pin" (pin = the feature that hold the spiral in place at bottom of balance) is held in place by "hooks" manufactured into/inside the frame.
The pin on the balance being replaced looks like its round/dowel like not "flat" pin shown on the series 500 image
Also does not appear that the the spiral balance can be fastened using a bracket because the base where it would be fastened is either open channel (no metal to tap screws into) or where the window seal is (which is off center from the center line of the balance. located/installed.
So ---assuming the flat pin could be installed into and held by the "hooks" (is that reasonable to assume?) - but then how to adjust tension?

It sounds like you have a builder's grade window, which means the sash wasn't designed to be removable. These can be frustrating to deal with because of this, but we have a process we like to use.
With someone helping you, you will need to drop the new balance in from the top of the sash, screw it in at the top, then let the spiral drop down. You will then raise the sash and, while someone holds the sash in the open position, spin the spiral up to the bottom of the sash. Finally, with our 75-004 tool, give the balance about three turns to charge it and lock it to the end into the sash clip.
