in need of replacement parts for Certainteed double hung windows

Handy Person from Hawaii

Hello. I have a couple of windows where the spring has broken and am in need of replacement parts. I've enclosed photos of the complete assembly that I removed from an identical window to take photos. Can you please tell me the corresponding part numbers for each item in the assembly? I'll then put together an order. Thank you for your time. Michael

Hello there, Michael.

Since this is a Certainteed window, I recommend the 15-192 pivot shoe. This part is designed to be used with the Series 170 and Series 171 coil springs as well as the 15-156 cover and 15-157 balance drum. Note, the aligners on the face of the 15-192 may need to be shaved down so that it can fit into the track. Look these parts over and see what you think.

Hi Emily actually I do have another question - if my original Certainteed pivot shoes are still in good working order can I re-use them with your Swisco S170 coil spring? They both look like the spring is attached to the shoe with a screw. Let me know please? Thank you. Mike

Sure, I don't see any problem with that. If your old shoe is in good condition then it can be reused without issue, same with the spring retainers.

Just note that if you replace one spring, you should replace the other side, too. You never want to mix old and new springs.

Thanks once again Emily for the info and for the tip about the springs. I've placed an order for replacement parts. Wish me luck LOL.
