latch lever

I have Sash Controls sliding glass door 2265 with an outside lock (with key) and an inside lock (via latch). The latch broke-- I think this may be part 82-107, but I am not sure.

The main piece of the latch is approx 2" long. The lever pin appears to be about 3/4" long.

Is it possible, as I hope, to replace only the broken latch, or do I need to replace the entire handle set?

To me, it looks like 82-107 would fix the problem. Are there any noticeable problems with the handle itself, or with the internal locking mechanism? If not, you should only need a thumb lever.

Will the part come with instructions on how to install it?

It does not come with instructions, unfortunately. The 82-107 is held into the handle with a press-in pal nut. It can be a little tricky, but it should just press on the back inside of the handle. We actually plan to do a tutorial video on this part sometime in the future, but we do not have anything yet. Let me know if you have any trouble and we'd be happy to walk you through it.

Unfortunately I am having some trouble. (Did I mention I am not typically a handy person?) I've reviewed some nearby threads regarding this part, but I could still use a hand.

First off, it appears the old part failed because on the latch itself, one of the metal bits on the back that holds the lever pin in place broke off from (I assume) metal fatigue. FWIW.

There's two things I'm confused by:

1) Your image of this part is very helpful in showing the correct order of the various washers & the nut in relation to the pin and the lever. But it does not show where the door handle itself fits into the sequence. It appears I have to remove the handle, put some of the pieces on the inside of the handle, then reattach the handle, and place the rest of the pieces (or at least the lever itself) on the outside of the handle, and press hard for it to pop into place. If that understanding is correct, could you tell me which bits go inside vs. outside the handle? If that understanding is not correct, I guess I need even more help!

2) The new lever pin itself appears to be a significantly different length than the old lever pin. I assume this is fine, that I should simply use the old lever pin (as I noticed a nearby poster did).

Ah, I see what you mean. You will need to put the lever spindle into the thumb turn first. The outside of the handle, where the lever goes, has the nylon washer behind it. On the backside, you have a stainless steel washer, then the black push nut locks it all together. I hope that makes sense!

As for the length, it should be fine. If not, you could always trim it down a little (or use the old one, if you have it handy).
