metal double hung "nu sash"windows from 1960's?

Quick Learner from sanford florida
I have an historic house with metal double hung windows that say "NU sash" on the lock. They have an elaborate pulley system on the top inter workings and heavy cord connecting the windows. the cords are "slack" or broken as a result of the spring/block and tackle system has frozen up. I can only replace the windows with all wood because of Historic Preservation Board. All wood windows are harder to find than repair man for NU Sash. Please Please Please any help would be great.. Thank you for contacting us. Would there be any way you can upload a photo of the part in question so that we may take a closer look?

Hello,

It looks like you are showing overhead balances, which install in the header of the window frame. Unfortunately, we do not carry replacements for this balance system. I'm sorry that we won't be able to assist with this repair but please let us know if you have any other hardware questions. Thanks for posting.

Thanks! Would you happen to have an old schematic that could show me how it operates? Thanks!

Unfortunately, we don't. It is possible that the jamb track would need to be removed to take out the sash and header to access the balances above it or it may not be designed to come out at all. Since we don't carry the repair parts for this window, we honestly don't have much insider knowledge about how it is put together. I'd recommend contacting a local professional who has experience with windows like yours to help you with the removal process.
